The stage is set for a truly historic event: four private submarines will be on display this week for the duration of the BLUE Ocean Film Festival & Conservation Event in Monterey, California.
As part of the event’s mission to promote awareness about the world’s oceans, the DeepBLUE Initiative brings together some of the most innovative technologies for exploring and studying the sea: manned submersibles. I was honored to serve as the 2012 DeepBLUE Manned Submersibles Program Coordinator, since it allowed me to work with our colleagues from around the country in order to pull together this incredible event.
In addition to our own flagship, Antipodes, three other subs will be on display: DeepFlight Super Falcon, DeepFlight Challenger, and Dual DeepWorker
OceanGate’s co-founder and COO, Guillermo, recently blogged about the 2012 DeepBLUE Initiative, noting that the historic event brought together some of the most innovative technologies for exploring and studying the sea: manned submersibles. As a sponsor of BLUE Ocean Film Festival & Conservation Event and a coordinator for the 2012 DeepBLUE Initiative, OceanGate was called upon to bring four of the world’s most intriguing underwater vehicles to the Portola Hotel in Monterey, California.
Also participating—but without their submarines—will be several other manned submersible builders and operators, including:
This promises to be a terrific opportunity for the ocean community and general public to get a first-hand experience with manned submersibles … the best way to explore the world’s oceans!
